The Isaacs Art Center, located in a historic 1915 school
building in the center of Waimea, is run for the exclusive benefit
of the financial aid program at Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy, a
private K-12 college-preparatory school. The center’s permanent
collection features the work of Madge Tennent, whose Girl in
Red, Hawaiians Hanging Holoku and Lei Queen Fantasia hang
prominently in the gallery alongside Herb Kawainui Kane’s The
Arrival of Captain Cook at Kealakekua Bay in January 1779. The
Isaacs Art Center gallery offers for sale rare works by leading
Hawaiian artists of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, as well
as sculpture and furniture by contemporary Big Island master
woodworkers, Asian porcelain and objets d’art, and carefully
selected collectibles and jewelry of the highest quality. Open
Tuesday-Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free.
