Hawai‘i, the Big Island, welcomes beach lovers to more than 100 different beaches island-wide—in colors of white, black, salt & pepper grey and even green—from sugary sand to rocky lava coast. Because the Big Island is still young, geologically speaking, our beaches tend to be more rugged, and sometimes more remote. Near the resorts, you may find lifeguards, showers and pavilions, and elsewhere nothing but coast and ocean. Each beach is a wonderful adventure unto itself, so before you head out, do a little homework, check the map, bring what you need, and prepare to experience the wild and wonderful diversity of Big Island beaches.
